The Smart Home Dashboard on Fire TV devices was first launched a little over a year ago. Amazon has never really advertised the Smart Home Dashboard, even though it’s been around for quite some time. Since it’s first launch, Amazon has done an overhaul of the Smart Home Dashboard with a new look that provides a better look of your security cameras, smart lights, and smart plugs. There’s also a “Favorites” row on the main Smart Home Dashboard.

To open the Smart Home Dashboard, you can use the mic on your Fire TV remote and say “Open Smart Home Dashboard” or just “Open Smart Home”.

Another way to open the Smart Home Dashboard is by quickly pressing and releasing the microphone button and the Alexa Shortcut Panel appears.

Alexa Shortcut Panel

At the top of the Smart Home Dashboard is a navigation bar for seeing all your lights, plugs, and cameras separately. When you select one of the main tabs, like lights, if you press on the “Select” button on your remote it will turn ON or OFF the light. If you press the “Menu” button on your remote, you will have the option to turn ON or OFF the light and also adjust the brightness of the light using the bar bellow the ON/OFF switch.

Smart plugs will only turn ON or OFF and cameras will simply will launch in full screen when selected.

Of course, there are some bugs that need to be worked out by Amazon. As of now, the Blink cameras do not work in the Smart Home Dashboard, even though they are supported and work fine in the Alexa app. The Ring Stickup Cam and Wyze cameras, all work perfectly fine in the Smart Home Dashboard. Also, preview thumbnails as shown in Amazon’s marketing screenshot at the top of this post, do not show on any of my cameras even on the Ring Stickup Cam that I have.

The “Favorites” smart home devices, need to be added in the Alexa app in order to appear in here.

Hopefully, Amazon will fix the few bugs that exist in here and also add support for smart thermostats. We just have to wait and see!
